Céline Cousteau

Celine Cousteau, granddaughter of Jack Cousteau, is an environmental activist who has embraced filmmaking. Her most recent documentary is about Jean-Michel Cousteau, her late father.  The PBS feature, titled Jean-Michel Cousteau: Ocean Adventures, chronicles an expedition around the  world’s oceans to meet mysterious  marine creatures, find shipwrecks and hidden treasures, and bring to light the fight for survival faced by ocean wildlife.  Ms. Cousteau’s production credits include Mysteries of the Shark Coast for the Discovery Channel and various micro-documentaries created for global non-profits feturing individuals and organizations which search for solutions to solve our world’s environmental concerns.
When she is not producing, Céline Cousteau embraces the Earth’s gifts by pursuing her personal passions and adventures; including free-diving, leading an expedition to the peaks of the Andes, and swimming amid a school of sharks in the South Pacific.

Ms. Cousteau actively seeks complementary industries to share her message  with as many people and organizations as possible.  For example, her experience with ocean natural fauna prompted her to join and partner with La Prairie, a Swiss skin care designer, to develop a new line of sea-based products for the company.

Dr. Sylvia Earle PHD

Dr. Sylvia A. Earle, is one of the world’s most influential ambassadors representing our oceans. She has been coined “Her Deepness” by the New Yorker and New York Times, “Living Legend” by the Library of Congress and the first “Hero for the Planet” by Time Magazine.  Dr. Earle is an oceanographer, explorer, author and lecturer. She is the recipient of numerous awards for her work in ocean advocacy, including the prestigious TEDPrize in 2009 as well as BLUE’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Outstanding Ocean Advocacy.

Her recognition by TED inspired Mission Blue and The Sylvia Earle Alliance, both of which focus on “igniting public support for a global network of marine protected areas to save and restore the ocean, the blue heart of the planet.”

Dr. Earle’s achievements are recognized by the political, media and scientific communities.   She was instrumental in adding ocean layers to Google Earth. Her expertise is often utilized by global governments for her knowledge of oceanography to assess the scope and threat caused by oil spills and other factors to our oceans.  She was a very conducive voice in the Gulf of Mexico BP oil spill proceedings broadcasted on C-SPAN’s Gulf of Mexico Spill Federal management meeting.

“The ocean is a big, blue magnet to pull together people who care.” This is the message Dr. Earle successfully conveyed to the conference room, filled to capacity by scientists, filmmakers, engineers, educators, divers and artists, at the Portola Hotel for the Blue Ocean Film Festival and Conservation Summit during her keynote address.

Dr. Elizabeth Lindsay

Dr. Lindsay was the first Polynesian female Fellow in the history of the National Geographic Society. Her achievements as a cultural anthropologist compelled her to produce an award winning documentary titled Then There Were None, an educational narrative regarding near extinction of native Hawaiians. Her documentary awarded her the 2004 Big Island of “Hawaii Woman of the Year” and the prestigious CINE Eagle recognition.

Dr. Lindsay’s global travels and expositions grant her amazing insight into countless cultures and landscapes, all serving and solidifying her exceptional inspiring speeches. She has been a guest speaker at Ivy League universities; recently Harvard University,  Oxford University, Stanford University, prestigious museums including the Smithsonian, global institutions of note like Tibet Fund and the United Nations. The United Nations garnered her the Visionary Award for intercultural engagement and understanding.

Crediting her inspiration and knowledge base to a lifelong global commitment to native elders and mentors, Dr. Lindsay has learned to navigate weather, ocean and the world.  This has allowed her to enhance personal intuition and perception of nature; lending her the ability to teach others through her blog and speeches to live our lives to the fullest, without limits and with love and consideration. Gianna Savoie

Gianna Savoie’s quest to produce compelling stories is derived from her time spent in the Himalayan Peaks and Earth’s oceans. Her delivery is one that contains informative knowledge and will make you recognize and relate to her goal of educating and communicating her values. Her love of science and filmmaking allows her to share stories worldwide on networks like Discovery, PBS, Animal Planet, National Geographic and the BBC for over a decade.
Her most recent Emmy nominated documentary was Wolverine: Chasing the Phantom for the PBS series, NATURE. She is currently writing and story-producing Our Blue Canoe, a cinematic documentary about the plight of the Pacific Ocean is scheduled for release in 2013. When speaking of the ocean, she shares a personal perspective in her blog that details her experience moving from Rhode Island to New York and finally to Montana. She speaks of the ocean’s voice:

“With a move to Montana, I expected that voice to be hushed. The nearest ocean would now be the Pacific, and that would be 800 miles away. Yes, even here in this land-locked state, the language of the ocean is communicated in rich, full verse. It’s not heard through the pounding of surf, or lapping of waves — the summertime serenade with which I was acquainted. Here in the mountains, the ocean sings in a different register, with a clarity of voice found only in winter: it pings across the ice of a blue-white glacier, it rasps in the whirling diamond dust on a sub-zero morning, it grunts in the steamy breath of a bison rooting for forage, and it whispers as softly as a lover as it falls as snow on the evergreens. It’s the Ocean’s very own Rhapsody in White.”

In addition to filmmaking, her stories and articles have appeared in publications around the world. And in her quest to “pay it forward,” Gianna is also an instructor for the MFA program for Science and Natural History Filmmaking at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana.

Maryanne Culpepper

Maryanne Culpepper is an Emmy Award winning author and producer with 25 years of industry experience. She was named the president of National Geographic Television (NGT) in April 2011. She is constantly evolving and striving to improve her work via her production film and documentary efforts company, “Graffiti Works.”  “Graffiti Works” is Culpeppers’ film and video production business specializing in childrens and corporate  documentaries, and is based in Orlando, Florida and Washington, D.C.  Culpepper intends to resume a more hand’s on approach to her company upon a hiatus from National Geographic Television and will return to producing under her production company.

In a recent interview , she reflects on past and future achievements or goals by revealing to a reporter that while “National Geographic has got to be the most inspirational, game-changing place I’ve ever worked,” she has already been offered other projects and is “cooking a few of my own…I’ve loved being able to lead this team of some of the world’s most talented, creative people – and now I want to go play with them, not just supervise them,” she added.
